Early on in my career, I had the opportunity to work with a client, whom I’ll call Sarah. Sarah was a business professional, who by all appearances, had it all. She came in for therapy because her relationship had just ended and she was feeling sad and confused. She didn’t understand what had gone wrong and couldn’t figure it out on her own. What she did know was that she was in so much pain that she needed help.
Through our work together, she finally understood what had happened in her relationship and saw the patterns that she had been repeating, even prior to that relationship. She realized that those patterns of thinking and behaving had affected her career in a detrimental way also. She began to make different choices and felt more empowered. Sarah learned the skills that it takes to have a happy, long-lasting relationship. Her mood improved as she practiced those new skills and realized that she could do things differently than she had in the past. This had a snowball effect that led to her also making assertive career changes that she had only dreamed of before. She did move on to a healthier relationship and, last I saw her, she was happily engaged.
As I worked with Sarah and saw the positive and rewarding changes in her life, I realized that I wanted to devote my career to helping people like her, and that’s what I’ve been doing for over a decade now.
I look forward to meeting you.
